Yo Geoff...

I think it's safe for me to say that your Twitter experiment is incomplete as yet.

My curve into Twitter followed yours, largely. But I persevered through the second encounter, and have some findings.

1. It takes about a month of total immersion in Twitter to 'get' it.

2. Once you 'get' it, it becomes a life-changer and definitely a game-changer.

3. I now get almost all of my new business queries through Twitter. WITHOUT me being a spammer or marketeer. I am very active in sqaushing spam. And I avoid 'selling' on Twitter. Nevertheless, the business flows.

'Total immersion' translates to:

O Following at least 100 quality tweeters.

O Having at least 100 of your own tweets, preferably interesting ones.

O Tweeting at least 5 times a day.

O Responding to the tweets of others.

It's alchemical what happens next. Regardless of the Twitter backend troubles.

Lisa: probably 2010 (maybe 2011) was the last year Cambridge is viable; Drupalcon has been roughly doubling in size every year. If that pattern continues, 2012 is likely to bring around 3,000 to 4,000 delegates. Perhaps more. That's probably outside the bounds of what Cambridge could handle.

I was rather hoping that nobody would bid for 2010, and then would have seen if we could have put something together. But Copenhagen has bid for 2010 (and 2011) and Berlin may yet. Copenhagen has several venues that can seat more than the expected 2010 numbers. Added to that - there is low community support from DrupalUK for 2010, and to make a successful event we ideally need lots of volunteer time.

Kelly: I'm immensely disappointed. I thought Cambridge had wider community support, but when it came to voting, most people put their weight behind London citing those two reasons. If I'd realised that people thought that they were serious stumbling blocks before the voting, I wouldn't have gone about the campaign for Cambridge in the same way.

It's a great shame Jeff - sorry there wasn't any more we could do for you at Conference Cambridge. We don't get many enquiries for very large events and it is true that our facilities in the University and Colleges are better suited for events up to 500.

However, the multisite option has worked really well for many other large meetings and Cambridge is a really compact city to get about in -distances shorter than adjacent rooms in may convention centres; with good signage and organisation it works well as a destination.

Please do consider us again if you have anything smaller!

I will pass your comment to my peers.

That's a shame. I lived in Cambridge for 6 years and thought that this ancient tiny city would make an awesome Drupalcon venue. Walking around Cambridge is a huge joy. Maybe 2012?

Just wanted to add a note about all of this, specifically the left click button: I had the same issue at first, then realized that whenever I clicked, I could hear the click BEFORE it would actually take...I had to push harder than enough to trigger the click noise to actually get it to register that I clicked.

I noticed the same thing with the fast-up button above the scroll wheel, which I had to push about 10x as hard to activate as the down-scroll button. So, I decided it was a factory defect, and since I just bought it the day before, I took it back for an exchange.

The new one, ALL of the buttons work perfectly, and the left click is actually the perfect resistance, for me. You may have just gotten sold a bad one.

[...] A while ago I wrote down some of the thoughts Simon Phipp’s had on models of Open Source and Free licences. Now Simon (with help) has put down the thoughts in a white paper which says it better and much more thoroughly. [...]

I found these guys by accident.
A local hairdresser gave me their card when I mentioned being into bikes!
Their love for bikes, attention to detail and friendliness means I'm looking for things wrong with my bike just to go back. :)

Try the Trackman, great form and functionality. I've owned at least 5 I can remember. My wife and kids love it too, so they are all over the house. Including one that is missing a ball. I telecommute 2 days a week, so I try to keep an identical setup at home and work.

Also I'm ambidextrous, so I keep 2 mice plugged in at all times. Left hand I use the Logitech Marble Mouse, because it's a simple sturdy symmetrical design for use with either hand. I have 3 of those currently. I've used 2 at a time, on the left and right, but I switched to Trackman for the scrollwheel. Anyway, just my 2cents.

Virtualization, Xen, VMGL, etc are now old and actual things.
Why no more support today ???
Even about Xen I have difficults to foud good doc,
such as PCI passthrough.

Is there some nvidia initiative about nvdia paravirtualized Linux&Window driver ?

I want same environment as you.
Yes, we probably have to do it ourselves.

I agree with you. I started trackball with logitech marble and 4 weeks ago I bought trackman because I need wheel.

But I got trouble with new one. I feel same with you on left button. It's too hard to click and much more too hard to hold. and I feel uneasy with left hand (I changed few years ago).

I hope logitech will provide marble with wheel.
